Call for Abstracts: Special Session at Light Symposium 2026

The Art of Darkness project invites researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts for its dedicated Special Session at the Light Symposium 2026, taking place from 23–25 September 2026 in Copenhagen, hosted by Aalborg University.

This session will focus on advancing the understanding of darkness as an active design material, exploring its role in shaping human experience, supporting ecological balance, and enhancing cultural value.

Contributions are encouraged from a wide range of disciplines, including design, research, and artistic practice, with topics covering darkness-sensitive design, perceptual and experiential qualities of low-light environments, light art practices, co-creation approaches, and environmental aspects of designing with darkness.

Selected abstracts will undergo a double-blind peer review process, with accepted contributions developed into full papers for publication in the IOP Conference Series proceedings.

Submissions must be made via the official platform (select “Other topic” and add “Art of Darkness” as a keyword).

  • Abstract submission deadline: 13 April 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: 30 April 2026
  • Full paper submission: 29 May 2026
  • Conference dates: 23–25 September 2026
