Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is the only flagship in engineering and IT science and education in Estonia, providing higher education at all levels in engineering and technology, information technology, economics, science, and maritime.
TalTech’s mission is to promote science, technology, and innovation, and to serve as a leading provider of engineering and economic education in Estonia. Located in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, TalTech enjoys a scenic setting in the Mustamäe district. It is the only campus-type university in the Baltic countries and one of the most compact university campuses in Europe.

Founded in 1918, TalTech has approx. 9100 students (9% are international), making it the largest and one of the most international universities in the capital.
It ranks among the top 3% of universities globally (QS World University Rankings) and is in the top 2% in fields such as Engineering, Technology, and Business Administration. As a member of the EuroTeQ network, TalTech enables students to access courses from other top-ranked technological universities across Europe.
Microgrids and Metrology Research Group
The TalTech Microgrids and Metrology Research Group (22 team members) is part of the Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Mechatronics. The group focuses on two main areas: electrical power supply systems (including microgrids) and lighting systems.
In the field of lighting, the group studies the impact of new lighting technologies on human health and the environment, including road safety. New measurement methods are being developed to assess light pollution and the effects of various lighting sources, including LED screens. Additionally, the potential of indoor and outdoor lighting applications to provide flexibility to the energy system is being explored. These efforts support the development of sustainable energy systems and improved lighting quality.
